What is it?
Freeze-drying is a method of preserving food through a process that dehydrates frozen food by transforming ice directly into vapor, known as sublimation. This technique is highly beneficial for maintaining the nutritional value, color, taste, and appearance of the food, preserving up to 90% of the nutrients and rich flavors. It serves as a healthy and effective preservation method, applicable to a diverse range of foods, ensuring that every freeze-dried item retains the essence and benefits of its fresh counterpart.
How Does it Work?
We have special machines to freeze dry all our products. Foods are first frozen between -340C (-300F) to -450C (-500F). Next, a vacuum slowly warms the food, pulling out all the water and moisture from the chamber until the product is completely dry and preserved (the process of sublimation).
Why choose Freeze Dried Snacks?
Freeze drying transforms the textures of well-loved candies, turning chewy, gummy delights into light, airy, and crunchy treats. This alteration not only provides a unique eating experience but also makes it accessible and enjoyable for everyone, including individuals with orthodontics and dentures.
Benefits of Freeze Drying?
Whole Food Nutrition. With a rising shift in consumer values towards whole food nutrition, more people are seeking nourishment from authentic, high-quality food sources with clear and understandable labels. Freeze-dried foods, being minimally processed, meet this demand by offering clean ingredients free from synthetic, artificial, and highly processed materials—yes, freeze-dried fruits and vegetables are real fruits and vegetables! Additionally, freeze-drying stands out as it retains nutritional value, color, shape, intense flavor, and aroma closest to the fresh form compared to other preservation methods, providing a wholesome and authentic eating experience.
An additional benefit of freeze-drying is its versatile adaptability, allowing customization to meet specific needs and objectives. Freeze-dried ingredients can be tailored into a variety of sizes and shapes, from intact fruits and vegetables to fine powders, facilitating the development of a distinct flavor profile in any final product. Furthermore, freeze-drying contributes to an extended shelf life by reducing the moisture content to an average of around 3%, thereby minimizing the potential for bacterial growth and maintaining the integrity of the product over time. This integration of customization and preservation makes freeze-dried products an ideal choice for unique and lasting flavor experiences.
How long is the shelf life of freeze-dried products?
When sealed in an airtight container along with an oxygen absorber, freeze-dried items can have a shelf life of up to 25 years. However, for optimal flavor and texture, we suggest consuming the product within 3-4 months of purchase. Once the package is opened, it’s best to enjoy it within a week to prevent exposure to moisture and to maintain its delightful crunch.
What is the difference between freeze drying vs dehydrating?
Dehydrating removes water from products using warm temperatures, whereas freeze drying extracts water from frozen foods, thereby preserving both the flavor and nutrients inherent in the food.
